Walking Beside the Unseen
(This reflection
is inspired by the story of the Emmaus journey, which we revisited during our
2025 retreat.)
In
Luke 24:13–35, two disciples walk a long road, burdened by
disappointment and confusion, unaware that Christ Himself walks beside them.
Like them, we also carry quiet sorrows along our journey, moments when reality
falls short of what we hoped for.
Like the
disciples on the road to Emmaus, we too carry disappointments along our
journey. Our hearts grow heavy when reality does not meet our hopes.
A good
candidate we believed in did not win.
The fruit of our long labor seemed just beyond reach.
The fruit of our long labor seemed just beyond reach.
A lesson we
prepared with passion fell flat in class.
The savings we
tried to build slipped away faster than we planned.
Each of these
moments leaves us walking a little slower, our faith dimmed by frustration, our
prayers quieter than before. And yet, just like those two disciples, we often
fail to see that Someone still walks beside us.
Even in the
storms of life, even when unrecognized, Christ journeys with us. He listens to
our laments, not with impatience, but with love. He breaks bread with us in
silence, reminding us that He was never absent — only unseen.
In hindsight,
we realize: He was there when our plans failed. He was there when our hearts
broke. He was there when we questioned our purpose.
God was with
me.
God is with me.
God never left
me.
And that truth,
quiet yet certain, makes every road holy — even the ones that lead through
disappointment.
